The Botanical Research Center (BRC) is a collaborative effort between:

The
Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a separate, independent component
of the LSU system and was established in 1980 when C.B. Pennington announced
an unparalleled donation of over $125 million to LSU for construction
of research laboratories and clinics dedicated to nutrition and preventive
medicine.
The
major source of grant funding is the NIH. PDI (Pennington Discoveries,
Inc.) provides a vehicle for translational projects, i.e., commercializing
Pennington research discoveries. These resources, combined with the creativity,
ingenuity, and productivity of the scientific faculty have enabled the
Pennington Center to achieve an international reputation within the nutrition
research community, particularly in the area of obesity, within a brief
period of time.
Recently,
the USDA Agricultural Research Center entered into negotiations with PBRC
to develop a cooperative endeavor, the “Center for Obesity Prevention”
to be located at the Pennington’s Baton Rouge campus. Visit
the Pennington Biomedical Research Center’s
website.

It
is considered one of the world’s leaders in botanicals research
and discovery. The Biotech Center was created in 1987 jointly by the New
Jersey Commission on Science and Technology and by the University. Located
in Foran Hall, which was built in 1995 on the Cook College Campus of Rutgers,
the Biotech is an integral part of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment
Station (NJAES).
The
Biotech Center has internationally recognized research programs in plant
biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, botanical therapeutics research,
and natural products bioprospecting from plants and microbes.
The
Biotech Center is the home of the International Cooperative Biodiversity
Groups (ICBG) program jointly funded by The National Institutes of Health,
the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
It is dedicated to discovery and development of natural therapeutic agents
from plants and microbes from Central Asia.
